Pay
The salary for Recruit candidates starts at $40,391 and rises to $49,517 per year ($51,517 per year with a qualified Bachelor’s degree) after one year of service with addtional incentive payments for bilingual officers, college degrees, merit pay, etc. The full pay calculator for NOPD Officers is available here.
Health, Retirement, and Pension
Officers receive access to affordable medical, dental, vision, disability, and retirement benefits (with eligibility in as little as 5 years of service), in addition to 10 paid holidays, 13 days of paid vacation, 13 days of paid sick leave, and 15 days of paid military reserve leave each year. Officers are also eligible for home purchase programs.
Federal Student Loan Forgiveness
The NOPD is a qualifying employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Tuition Reimbursement
Offered through the private, non-profit, New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation depending on fund availability.
Career Paths
NOPD contains many highly-specialized units and Officers are encouraged to pursue a career path in the area that best utilizes their talents. These include a canine unit, a mounted unit, a motorcycle unit, Special Operations Division, Digital Forensics, and many others.
